Boy, I couldn't wait to tell you about the latest iPad mini and now it is time for the Apple iPad 4. I was very sleepy last night and due to that I was just able to post about the new iPad mini and I chose to post about that because it was something we hadn't seen over the years. Now, it is time to reveal the new iPad and that is the 4th generation of iPad. Read More to find out about this device.
This is another iPad, released just half a year after the iPad 3.
The iPad gave the word "tablet" its real meaning. iPads have become really popular since Apple has launched them and before the launch of the first iPad, no one knew that tablets even existed. Yesterday, October 23rd, was one of the biggest Apple events and I saw it, "live".
This iPad was announced just before the iPad mini and we are going to talk about the iPad 4th generation in detail in this post.
Display
The first thing that I'd like to talk about is the display. The display on this is a Retina Display and the screen is a multitouch, of course. The screen type is LED-backlit IPS TFT and it is a capacitive touchscreen. It is the same as in iPad 3.Screen Resolution & Pixel Density
The resolution on this iPad is a 1536 x 2048 pixels and it is the same as in the iPad 3. So there's not much to talk about in this area. All apps for iPad 3 will run on this iPad too.
The pixel density also is the same as in the iPad 3. There is no difference in the pixel density of iPad 3 and iPad 4. I think this too much of same things would discourage buyers from buying the iPad 4.
Screen Size
The screen size on this iPad is the same as in iPad 3. That is alright as the screen size has remained the same throughout this series of iPads.
Protection
The protection provided with this iPad is also the same as in iPad 3. They haven't provided the Corning Gorilla Glass but it is something that is Scratch-resistant.
Also there is this fingerprint-proof coating over it, i.e, Oleophobic coating. You must not see any oily fingerprint stains on the screen of iPad now.
Connectivity
The connectivity options that we get are almost the same that we have seen on the iPad 3 but some features like the video calling have been changed. Confused? Huh? You'll understand later in this post what I mean to say.
The connectivity options that that we get are:-
- GPRS
- EDGE
- Wi-Fi - 802.11 a/b/g/n
- Bluetooth - 4.0 with A2DP
- 2G, 3G & 4G LTE
Apple also has put in the Lightning port in the iPad 4 which wasn't present in the iPad 3.
Thickness & Weight
Both, the thickness and weight, of this iPad are the same as of the iPad 3. This, again, is a big bummer for people who'd like to buy the iPad 4, for there is no reason one should buy it!I expected Apple to at least make it slimmer and lighter, as always. But Apple didn't even do that.
This iPad is 9.4 mm thick and it is just the same as of iPad 3.
The weight of this iPad is a lot just like the iPad 3. It is 662 g.
Storage
The storage options that we get with this iPad are quite good as they are the same as iPad 3. Although, we don't have any idea about the RAM but I expect it to be 2 GB. If Apple doesn't change it then there would be only one sick reason as to why should anyone buy the iPad 4.Variants
This iPad comes in three variants 16/32/64 GB.
Camera
There are not much changes in the camera. Actually, they haven't changed the primary camera but the secondary camera has been changed.Primary
The primary camera is a 5 Mega-pixels shooter and it has the the autofocus and touch focus functionality.
The picture quality of this camera is the same as in the iPad 3. There are no changes.
It also records video at 1080p which is full HD and that too at 30 fps which is quite bad! Yes. The colour quality in the video recording just sucks! You can see noise grains all over the screen when you record a video in full HD and play it on you PC or Mac. It is just useless.
Secondary
The secondary camera on this iPad has been improved and it has become a 1.2 Mega-pixels shooter now which records video at 720p and that too at 30 fps. This should be quite nice for people who like to do video calling and stuff. There's another good news for people who like to video call a lot or less. Video calling can be be done on Cellular networks as well as over Wi-Fi.
OS & Chipset
The OS that it comes with is Apple's latest OS, i.e, iOS 6. That's not the only thing different in this department. The processor too is different.Processor & GPU
The processor on this iPad is an Apple A6X processor and in the iPad 3 we get the A5X processor which is a 1 GHz Dual-Core Cortex A9 processor and we don't have any idea about this A6X processor. I believe it'll be a Dual-Core too.
Another thing is the GPU. The GPU of this is the same as in iPad 3. PowerVR SGX543MP4 (quad-core graphics). So the graphic performance will be the same as in the iPad 3, all the games in the App Store should run on this.
Other Features
Sensors
The sensors we get with this are only three and it doesn't include the Proximity sensor which shouldn't be a bummer as no one does voice calls with this thing.
- Accelerometer(motion sensor)
- Gyroscope
- Compass
GPS
There is indeed a GPS in this and it has the A-GPS support and that too with GLONASS which should provide better results and directions must be more accurate. This is another thing that we haven't seen in the iPad before.
Battery
The last, the battery. The battery that we get with this is an 11,560 mAh battery and sadly it is a Li-Po battery and it is the same as we have seen in the iPad 3 but Apple promises a better battery life due to the new processor. Apple promises a Talk-Time of 9 hours and a Stand-by of 720 hours. That's it for now...
