Hi there, this is Aryansh and in this post I'm gonna post the first looks of the new iPad mini.
I know this is very early as Apple has just announced the iPad mini and I sure want my visitors to know about it. I didn't expect so many features packed in such a small thing. I think my life is not gonna be normal now, haha! Read More to find out about this sexy brat(iPad mini, not me.).
I just couldn't resist posting about the latest iPad mini. I watched the whole Apple event live! I was like, getting mad and all that over Apple's "innovations". I don't know why, but I feel as if Apple has improved a lot after Steve Jobs death. No offense, I'm just taking an event as point A and where Apple stands today as point B. Well, without further ado, I should tell you about the much awaited specs. Yeah, specs!
The screen is a multitouch screen, which is quite apparent, and this time, Apple has used a different technology in the screen. The screen is LED-backlit and it is an IPS grade LCD this time!
Screen Size
The screen size of the iPad mini is more than the Google Nexus 7 and still it fits well in hands. This is one of the features which is why people might like to use the iPad mini over the traditional iPads for daily use. It fits just right into the hands of Darren(Engadget) and for sure it's gonna fit well in the hands of others.
The screen size on this little, yet big, thing is 7.9-inches which is quite good and it is quite broad. The bezel is very thing at the sides and broad at the top and the bottom. And this is what makes iPad mini the conservative iPad.
Resolution and pixel density
The resolution of this iPad is the same as in the iPad 2 and that is the biggest thing that should make gamers happy! Due to the same resolution, all the apps that run on the traditional iPads will run on this iPad mini too.
The resolution is a 1024 x 768 pixels resolution which is a thing to be shouted about in the public and tagged as breaking news. I'm very happy that Apple didn't play with the resolution of this iPad mini.
Coming to the more technical insights now, the pixel density. The pixel density is not at all up to the mark from my point of view. The device is not a very big device and people would look at it closely. I guess that we'll be able to see the little-little pixels on this Apple device if we look closely. The pixel density on the iPad mini is supposed to be 162 ppi. This could be a thumbs down for a lot of people including me.
I am a person that finds seeing little-little pixels very irritating and I would think twice before buying this for that reason.
Protection
The protection provided with the iPad mini is just the Oleophobic coating, i.e, the fingerprint-proof coating. Although, this is very nice of Apple to put this thing as we don't find this even in very high-end phones, but still, I would have liked it if Apple had provided the Corning Gorilla Glass. But still, since it is thin, I would give it a big thumbs up.
This little thing packs up even 4G LTE! IT only supports nano-SIM to save some space for other components.
The connectivity options that we get are:-
Coming to the weight. This device does weigh a bit, and this was something not expected from Apple. The device weighs 312 grams and it is very likely to turn a happy face dull. It could have been in the 250 - 280 grams range but still. Apple has done a fair job here. It is still a thumbs up, as weight isn't much of a problem.
Variants
The device will ship in three variants, 16/32/64 GB and that is fair enough from Apple.
I would give a big thumbs up to Apple for not including the 8 GB variant because if all the iPad apps will run on this, then their size will also be the same, and in the 8 GB version, many people would have had some storage issues. So it's wise of Apple to not keep the 8 GB variant.
RAM
The RAM provided in the iPad mini is 512 MB which is quite nice for a device this size, but I believe that Apple could have increased it but it didn't. Apparently, the reason for this is to keep it in the price range a common "gadget freak" man could afford it. I don't know how would multitasking be in this as I haven't experienced it, so, no comments.
Primary
The primary camera on this device is a 5 Mega-pixels shooter and it does support the autofocus functionality and the touch focus functionality. I haven't personally used the camera right now so can't tell how it is gonna perform.
There is this one big con in this device and it is that, the device hasn't got the LED flash functionality. This maybe be a turn down sort of thing for many people who'd prefer to use this as an on-the-go camera.
The video recording that this supports is 1080p at 30 fps for the primary one. It does include the video stabilization option which is quite a nice feature for a device of this size.
Secondary
The secondary camera will be used for video calling and stuff and it records video in 720p at 30 fps which has become a common feature now.
The front camera is a 1.2 Mega-pixels shooter.
Processor & GPU
The processor on the iPad mini is a 1 GHz Dual-core Apple A5 Cortex A9 processor which we have seen previously and it performs very well. I haven't used the device so I can't comment on this.
The GPU on this thing is a PowerVR SGX 543MP2 GPU and I have no idea how this will work on this iPad mini so I will tell you about it in a detailed review of this iPad mini.
Sensors
This iPad mini includes three sensors only and it doesn't have the Ambient light sensor or the proximity sensor. The sensors are as follows:-
Colours
It comes in colours:

Display
The first thing that I'd like to talk about is the display. It is always amazing with Apple! The design, although, looks copied. Hmm... From where? Haha! Samsung's Note II. We are not gonna get into that right now, but is looks very similar. The screen is a multitouch screen, which is quite apparent, and this time, Apple has used a different technology in the screen. Connectivity
The connectivity options that we get are just vast! I'm very impressed to see that the iPad mini supports Cellular networks. No one, in my knowledge, expected this from Apple. Everybody thought that it is gonna be the same Nexus 7 repeat, but no! It ain't a repeat! This little thing packs up even 4G LTE! IT only supports nano-SIM to save some space for other components.
The connectivity options that we get are:-
- 2G, 3G, 4G(LTE)
- GPRS
- EDGE
- WLAN - Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n , dual-band
- Bluetooth - 4.0 with A2DP & EDR
We do get the lightning connector with this and by this Apple has started a new era of connectors now.
Thickness & Weight
The thickness of this iPad mini is just 7.2 mm and that is remarkable. It is very thin according to me and has that flat base. So there is no point of Apple fooling us by providing the thickness of the side. The thickness of the iPad mini is 7.2 mm throughout the device.Coming to the weight.
Storage
The storage options provided are quite fair this time and I think Apple has done a great job by not excluding some options and keeping the RAM fit.Variants
The device will ship in three variants, 16/32/64 GB and that is fair enough from Apple.

Camera
The camera wasn't expected to be of this grade and we didn't expect two cameras in one iPad mini too.Primary
The primary camera on this device is a 5 Mega-pixels shooter and it does support the autofocus functionality and the touch focus functionality. I haven't personally used the camera right now so can't tell how it is gonna perform.

The front camera is a 1.2 Mega-pixels shooter.
OS & Chipset
The OS that it'll have is the latest iOS 6 and I have told a lot about the iOS 6 in snippets in many of my Apple product reviews or overviews and my readers must have got a nice idea about it.Processor & GPU
The processor on the iPad mini is a 1 GHz Dual-core Apple A5 Cortex A9 processor which we have seen previously and it performs very well. I haven't used the device so I can't comment on this.

Other Features
Other features that this includes are given below.Sensors
This iPad mini includes three sensors only and it doesn't have the Ambient light sensor or the proximity sensor. The sensors are as follows:-
- Accelerometer( Motion sensor)
- Gyroscope
- Compass
GPS
In this part Apple did surprise me as it has included GPS with A-GPS support and to give even better results, it has also given GLONASS. This should provide you with more accurate directions.
It comes in colours:
- Black - Slate
- White - Silver
We don't have any information about the battery, so, would not say anything about that except for that Apple has told us that it would give us 10 hours of talk-time.
That's it for now...
