Understanding RAR files downloaded in torrent files

Hi there, this is Aryansh and in this post I'm gonna help you understand the RAR files that come inside the games or softwares or anything that comes with the torrent files that you might've downloaded from some torrent site.

Many of my friends call me to install their games or some software and I just tell them to install it from the setup file, but then, they tell me that they are in parts. How do we do it?

As the introduction of this post says, these files are in parts. The parts of these kind of files are generally in the RAR format. However, in some cases, these files are not in the RAR format and I'll write about that later in the post. First I'll narrate the RAR format scenario.

Case I

The first thing about these is that, these kinds of files are named like the following:-

FILENAME,part01
FILENAME.part02
FILENAME.part03
FILENAME.part04

And so on and so forth.
The first thing that you need to do in this case is, go to 'My Computer' and select 'Tools' and select 'Folder Options' from the drop down menu.
Note: If you are on Windows 7, just go to the start icon and type in folder options.
There should be some option to show the file extension. Enable That.

Having done that, go to the folder in which the files are located and you must see the file extension associated with them. check whether that is'.rar' or not.

If they are '.rar' files. Extract the first part to any folder in a Drive which has sufficient space and all the parts should extract automatically.
In case they don't, check the numbering of the files and number them accordingly. They should extract now.

CASE II

Sometimes we get these files in an extension-less format. In this case, go to the folder options and so the same thing that I have told earlier. You should see the files named like the following:-

FILENAME.part01 (part01 file)
FILENAME.part02 (part02 file)

And so on and so forth.
Though this case may seem pretty complicated, it is very simple.

Just right click each file, and click 'Rename' in the drop down which appears and add '.rar' (without quotes) in the end of the file and you are done!

That's it for now...
