Hi there, this is Aryansh and in this post I'm gonna do a quick review of the new Samsung Galaxy S3 mini.
The Galaxy S3 mini was announced early this October and is expected to release in November or early December. The phone is seriously a "mini" version of the Samsung Galaxy S3 with all the required features that we need in daily usage. Read More to see all the features of this phones which has all the qualities in equal proportion.
I don't know what has gone wrong with Samsung these days. Samsung has been producing phones like hell, and I don't know when they'll stop. They aren't even taking a break or something, it's just like an active river of phones and tablets and phablets and what not? They are just going on and on producing new phones and putting forth new ideas. And here, what I'll be reviewing is also one of the new "innovations"(that's not a pun) of Samsung.
The first thing I'd like to tell about this phone is that, his phone has a 4-inch screen. Which, as always in the case of Samsung, is a Super AMOLED screen. The disappointing thing about the screen is that it has a resolution of 480X800 pixels. I don't know if that really makes any difference or not, but whatever it is, I didn't expect this from Samsung. Samsung, however, manages to keep their reputation, I don't know how, as when we compare the screen to a 1280X720 pixels we hardly see any difference(a normal person doesn't but reviewers do see that). The screen has a pixel density of 233 ppi which is very great for this resolution in my opinion.
Another thing is that, the phone looks very similar to the Samsung Galaxy S3, which is why it is named the Galaxy S3 mini. And on the front we have, the same, three buttons of which two are Touch-Sensitive and one is the Samsung's famous large physical button. The back is, yet again, the cheap glossy plastic which we've seen in the Galaxy S3. One thing which I'd specially like to pint out is that the volume control of this phone is pretty small and people will have a lot of problem with that thing.
The phone has the multitouch functionality which is very common these days. This helps you in gaming and stuff when you need to use more than one touch point or finger, in simple words.
We'll get this phone in two models, one is the 8 GB one and the other is the 16 GB one. I am quite amazed to see the 16 GB one, I really didn't expect that Samsung would give this much of storage in a 'mini' version of their phone. We also get the option to add a microSD card, which is expandable up to 32 GB. The phone has 1 GB of RAM which is a great advantage as this'll ensure the smooth functioning of the phone.
The connectivity options on this phone are the, GPRS, EDGE, Wi-Fi(WLAN), Bluetooth and NFC.
One thing great about this is that it supports Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n. We don't generally get the 'a' connection type in phones like this. And it has the NFC, i.e, the tap to send/share functionality on this phone.
Coming to the camera. This phone has a rear facing camera which is a 5 MP shooter with autofocus and an LED flash. We do get the 'Tap to focus' function on this phone which is anything but special. The video recording we get is 720p and at 30 FPS and this is one more thing which I didn't expect in a phone like this. The front facing camera is a VGA camera which is decent according to me.
This phone comes pre-loaded with the Android version 4.1, which is the Jelly Bean. The disappointment, TouchWiz. When you look at the phone at first you won't be able to figure out if it is running 4.0 or 4.1 version of the Android because of the TouchWiz UI that Samsung finds great.
The new thing we find when we dismantle would be the new Chipset that Samsung has put into this thing. It is a NovaThor chipset and U8420 in specific.
The CPU in this phone is a Dual-Core 1GHzWe don't yet know the processor's brand/company/manufacturer.
We can't say anything about the GPU in this phone but I expect it to be a Mali 400 GPU.
The phone has two microphones and it should support stereo sound recording, but as for now, we know that the second one is for noise cancellation.
We also get a video editor, and Wow! I didn't expect this much in a phone this "grade".
We do get the GPS navigation in this phone with GLONASS. And, boy, I should say, I'm shocked to see the GLONASS in this thing.
The last thing, the battery, haha! The battery on this phone is a Li-ion battery which sports 1500 mAh. We don't know anything about the battery life right now as this phone hasn't been launched in the market.
That's it for now...
