Hi there, this is Aryansh and in this post I'm gonna do a quick review of the Samsung Galaxy S Advance.
This is a Mid-Range flagship Android phone by Samsung and you get all the features that you think there should be in a Mid-Range Android phone. Read More for more info.
The Samsung Galaxy S Advance is a phone about which a very few people know about. But seriously, I have to say that, for this phone, less is more. And you're gonna find the same below.
The first thing that I would like to tell you about this phone is that it sports a 4-inch screen and it is just fine for this phone as it is a Mid-Range phone and that too by a good brand. Although the resolution of the phone is a 480X800 pixels, it is a Super AMOLED screen with a pixel density of 233 ppi which is not something to be impressed about but still, it is comfortable to look at.
The UI of this phone is, again, the TouchWiz (4.0) UI which I never prefer and so that's why I prefer rooting the phone and getting the stock Android to run on it, and that should be the way to go.
The camera on this phone is a 5 Megapixels shooter and it comes with the normal LED flash. It's an auto-focus camera and we get to focus wherever we want too. And that's pretty normal now. The Video recording we get with this is 720p at 30 fps, which is quite good to my liking but the colour quality with this is not that good. It's just like a front facing camera recording at 720 p. Another thing that we see is that the camera is not as sharp as it should have been according to the price. We see those blurry edges when we look closer. The colour quality also isn't up to the standards of a 5 Megapixels shooter. Sometimes we can see a blueish tint on the green parts.
The texture at the back of the phone is quite good but when you call someone for long hours, the back gets heated and your palms start sweating and stuff like that. I guess that's because of the battery which maybe, gets warm or something like that.
The front camera is a 1.3 Megapixels shooter which is quite normal these days, nothing special about that.
The phone comes with the Android 2.3.6 which is the Gingerbread and that has been modified a lot by Samsung, that's because of their TouchWiz UI that we get. The phone, however, is compatible to load the ICS or Jelly Bean, but I guess that we won't be getting any update for that. If you would like to have the Android version 4.0 or 4.1 you will have to root the phone which I personally prefer on Samsung phones.
The processor on this phone is a Dual-Core 1 GHz Cortex A9 processor and the RAM is 768 MB which is pretty odd in my opinion, but still the phone is very smooth. I didn't find any lags or something in the phone. The stock browser that we get is also nice and the scrolling on this phone is just Superb! The pinching and zooming on this phone is excellent and unlike the HTC One X it doesn't do the text re-flow instantly.
The storage that we get with it is 8/16 GB of storage which depends from model to model but we can expand the memory by adding a micro-SD card up to 32 GB which is pretty common.
The phone's graphics are quite nice as compared to other Mid-Range Android phones. The phone has a Mali 400MP GPU. You can play all the games smoothly without any issues on this phone and there are no lags during the game-play.
We do get DLNA with this phone which is very nice as there are not enough DLNA devices in the market right now. The phone also offers NFC but that is optional. I don't know how do we get it to do it but I guess that's by rooting the phone and using Android beam.
We do get the 3G video calling with this phone but I haven't used it so I can't comment on that thing as of now. Would post a review of that as soon as I get to do it.
I haven't done any benchmark tests right now. But I would say the performance is pretty nice and the phone is very smooth.
The battery on this phone is a 1500 mAh and it is a Li-Ion battery.
The battery life that we get is of about a day. Samsung could've done better than this, but still, for the price, it is alright.
That's it for now...
