Hi there, this is Aryansh and in this post I'm gonna do a quick review of the new HTC One X.
There's a lot in this feature-filled phone by HTC. A new design apart from the traditional, new display, a superior camera, and a lot more. You've gotta read this more.
Here we are now, oh my God. This phone is superior!
"Ah! What's so special in it?" <-- That's what you would think won't you?
Well, let me tell you why I am appreciating this phone.
HTC has had a financial loss in the past, and I believe it's pretty big. So, now HTC has come up with 'huge' improvements I shall say.
In the past, HTC phones used to be like very well built with all the premium quality stuff and they used to be very thick and heavy too. But this time HTC has gone with the demand seeing their financials. They have changed a lot of things.
The HTC One X is slimmer, it is just 8.9 mm thick and it is pretty light too. It is not very light but since it is big in size, that weight doesn't matter a lot. It is just 130 g which you may feel in your pocket.
The build quality is still excellent, the back is made of polycarbonate and it feels very good. It actually feels like rubber, but it isn't really rubber. The phone may look big, but when you hold it, you never ever feel that as it is really nice to hold. I held it in my hands and i was like, "Wow! That phone fits right".
On the phone there are three touch-type capacitive buttons which you normally get with Android phones after Honeycomb I believe. Other that that there are no other buttons on the screen.
We get a very nice rear camera which has a decent picture quality. I would not say it is very good because when you see the images taken by the camera on your computer, you can see a little noise in the bright areas like the clouds and stuff like that which is colourful and bright otherwise in the dull parts you don't see much of that. You don't get to see any noise when you see the images on the phone, on the phone images come out excellent. The camera also has a burst mode which is capable of taking 5 shots per second which is very good. It is an 8 Megapixels camera.
Also, the video quality of the rear camera is also good. It would have been better if it was 30 fps. Right now we get around 23 fps in Full HD 1080p and in 720p we get around 23 to 24 fps.
The front facing camera is a 1.3 Megapixel shooter and it supports 720p recording which is pretty decent for voice and Video calls.
I forgot to mention before that the video recording has stereo mode which is pretty rare in phones. In fact it is very rare in cameras too, with many DSLRs we only get Mono recording.
The phone has a quad-core nVidia Tegra 3 processor which is clocked at 1.5 GHz. Which makes the phone very smooth and while switching between menus you don't feel any lags and stuff like that. The phone also has a companion core, which in my opinion, is a very nice feature and in case you are wondering what is it then let me tell you that it used when the phone is in the stand-by mode to save power.
The phone's battery is irremovable, but according to the sources on the internet it has an 1800 mAh battery.
The battery life on this phone really differs a lot from user-to-user, so it really depends on your usage and I can't comment on that as I haven't used it for a long period of time.
The phone has a storage of 32 GB out of which 26 GB is available to the user and when you first boot up the device it asks you to set up your Dropbox account which offers you a free storage of 25 GB for 2 years.
The phone has a 1 GB of RAM which makes it multitasking proof.
Also, I forgot to mention that the hone is a flagship Android phone from HTC and it comes with the HTC Sense UI version 4. This version of HTC sense is very nice and I'm pretty impressed by this one.
The screen is a Super IPS LCD2 screen which has a pixel density of 312 ppi which makes it really hard to see the pixels on the screen. The resolution of the screen is the obvious, 1280X720. And it is a HD screen. I found the display to be very nice. The screen was not very crisp although, but still it was very nice and in my opinion it was kind of close to the AMOLED display or slightly above that. Every thing looks very nice in the screen and you don't get to see much of that colour difference in different viewing angles.
The phone supports beats audio but sadly the phone doesn't ship with beats headphones but if you plug in other headphones and switch on the beats audio functionality you get to 'hear' a measurable difference in the sound clarity and the sound quality.
The phone accepts only a micro-SIM only and if you want your normal SIM to get into that thing you would have to buy a SIM cutter or watch some of the YouTube tutorials on how to cut your normal SIM into a micro one.
There's a little problem with the signal on this phone. During calls sometimes you experience a sudden dropping of signal from all the five bars to three bars which suddenly switches the audio quality. Although this doesn't happen all the time but sometimes you may experience that. The microphone is very good as there are two microphones on this phone which are used for stereo type of voice/video recording as I have told earlier. The other mic on this phone works as a true voice cancellation mic too.
The browsing experience on this phone is not very good because whenever you try to zoom in or zoom out at the same time and at the same instant it tries to reflow the text which is very irritating and that makes it very choppy too. The phone even has the problem with rendering long pages and while kinetic scrolling you may experience that otherwise, when normally scrolling you don't experience anything like a lag or something.
The big problem is that this thing doesn't goes even if you are using it with a third party browser. The browser hasn't got any problems with the flash.
Also, I would like to add that the keyboard is very nice on this phone. Even in the portrait mode you don't get that mixing of letters and all that and in the landscape mode, typing is heaven.
One big con of this phone is, which I don't think so any reviewer has pointed out, that it has a Li-Po (Lithium Polymer) battery and you can search the YouTube on how dangerous this battery is. You really need to check the phone that it doesn't gets over-charged and stuff like that because if it does it may easily catch fire and your phone will apparently won't work anymore.
The phone has got the folders functionality and if you just drag one app into the another into the another it'll create a folder which saves you a lot of disk space and that thing seriously looks very much like the folder functionality in the iOS.
The multitasking tray is new and it is very much "cinematic" I would say as you get this dark background there which looks like some theater effect.
The widgets adding and removing function is pretty nice and you just have to drag any widget out to remove it and just have to tap the home screen for a while to get a set of widgets to choose from.
The media playback on the phone is very nice and you don't see any skipping of frames while playing 1080p videos and apparently you won't see it while playing the 720p videos too.
The gaming on the phone phone is excellent I have to say as I played a lot of games on that thing and I have to tell you, I was compelled to chase down cars in the Hot Pursuit game because the games were running very, very smoothly.
The pricing of the phone is pretty high than it should have been, in India it costs about Rs. 36,000.
My final thoughts about this phone are that you should really buy it if you are fit with the above specs and if you do away with the cons.
That's it for now...
